Knee Injuries.

Injuries happens in the knee area due to a tear in one of the ligaments of the knee.Any tear in any one of those four ligaments causes pain and swelling to the person.
These injuries are of two kinds:

  1. ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament).
  2. MCL (Medical Collateral Ligament).


1.ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament):

ACL injuries happens when the person is playing some sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball that involves sudden and hard moves that might affect your knee an gets you hurt.When you get ACL you can't stand on your feet and your knee starts to swell.

Causes and Symptoms of ACL:
ACL happens when:
  • A hard blow or a hit on either sides of the knee while playing sports like soccer, football, volleyball etc.
  • A quick and sudden movements like running or landing from a high place.
You could find out if you have ACL injury if you heard a popping sound when hurt at the knee joint causing the torn of the ligament.Generally, ACL causes a tear in the middle part of the ligament, so you feel pain from that point.

Dealing with ACL tear:
You probably should see a doctor immediately so he can find out what is the cause of the pain.Notice that he might require you make some tests like X-Ray and MRI scans so he can find out the real cause of the pain in your knee.
In Common Cases,you should take some rest at home and don't try to carry heavy weights.Do a home treatment for you knee like Ice therapy, compression etc to reduce the pain and swelling of the knee.
During the period of healing from ACL tear you should keep your knee stable and avoid any sudden and hard movements.Also use a splint to keep your knee straight and avoid playing any sports or doing any activity that might affect your injury and cause you sever pain.

Prevention of ACL tear:
You should follow some rules and techniques while playing some sports and doing some activity to avoid the ACL injury.There are some sports programs that ficus on how to avoid injuring your knee and ACL as well.You could wear braces as a protection way while practicing some sports to reduce the chances of having a ACL tear.





2.MCL (Medical Collateral Ligament):

Is a very common injuries happens to a lot of people of all ages.It's caused due to sudden twist or bent in the inner parts of the ligament of your knee.The ligament in the inner part of the knee gets stretched and damaged in MCL tear.a bent or a stress can tear the tissues which can damage the ligament. MCL is the collation of tissues inside your knee. It connects the thigh bone to lower leg bone and is involved in the bending movement of the knee.

Causes and Symptoms of MCL:
MCL is hurt during physical activities such as soccer, football or any other game where the outer part of the knee gets hit.
A person with MCL  injury will feel acute pain, swelling in the knee and tenderness.This pain could be sever after hours of the injury.During MCL, you might not be able to move your knee.The pain could be mild, moderate or severe depending on the depth of the injury.



Treatment of MCL:
You can treat MCL at home easily.You can do this by resting,using anti-inflationary medicine and a cold bondage on the knee.This will reduce the pain of the knee.Also don't try to do physical activity for 3 weeks so that the knee could be healed.Mid injuries could take from 1 to 3 weeks to be healed. Moderate injuries could take up to 1 month for healing. Sever injuries could take few months to get healed.You should rest and do home treatment for your knee. If you got hurt during a physical activity you should see a doctor.

Prevention of MCL:
As said in ACL prevention, one should follow some rules and techniques while playing some sports and doing physical activity that might have effect on the knee. There's no specific way to prevent yourself from being injured but you can take some protective measures to reduce the chances you might get injured.
